NEW EMAIL FOR STAFF PARISH COMMITTEE – Do you have a question, concern, or words of encouragement regarding a member of the church staff? Reach everyone on the committee at once by emailing federatedstaffparish@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

DONATIONS NEEDED – Support the Island Lake, Wauconda Food Pantry and feed families in need.  There is a collection basket near the coat racks. They are specifically requesting plastic bags for carrying, high protein canned goods, and fruit. Find a list of other needed items here: Food Pantry Donation List. The first Sunday of every month starting October 7 will be Food Pantry SundayWe will be collecting non-perishable items for the Wauconda Food Pantry.  Please bring non-perishable items and place them in the basket by the entry doors.  Thank you for helping those in need.

CHURCH WORKDAY – The next church workday is Saturday, October 27 at 9:00 AM.  Join us as we tick off items on the church “honey-do” list and prepare the building for colder weather.

UNICEF – We will be kicking off our annual UNICEF drive Sunday, October 7, with a ‘Trick or Treat’ box distribution. Our goal of raising $400 to contribute to UNICEF’s purpose of reducing child mortality all over the world by working to reach the most vulnerable children, everywhere, is a noble one. UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Throughout the month of October, you are asked to drop your extra change into your container every day. The boxes will be collected the last week of October and the first week of November. See Lisa Knight for your carton pick up and drop off.

SUPER SENIORS LUNCHEON – Our October luncheon will be at Rose & Raj Bhatt’s home at noon on Wed., Oct. 24.  We will be ordering food from the lunch menu of Hong Kong Chop Suey.  Please sign up if you would like to attend.  Thank you Rose & Raj for opening your home to us.

CHOIR REHEARSAL BEGINS – Our choir practice begins at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 4. We welcome anyone who loves to sing. If you are interested in joining our choir, please see Geri Meyer.

FALL BIBLE STUDY – Pastor Soon Sun will be leading two Bible Study Classes.

Monday mornings from 10-11:30 AM on September 10, 17 & 24 and then changing to Tuesday mornings at 10:00 AM on October 2, 9, 16.

For 6 weeks the morning class will be reading the Book, “The Cup of Our Life” written by Catholic Nun: Joyce Rupp. It is a book and guide for spiritual growth- it is about your prayer life. Rupp helps individuals and groups pray about everyday life using the rich symbol of a cup. For the study, you need to bring your coffee mug or tea cup with you.

Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:00 PM starting September 4, 11, 18, 25, and October 2, 9 & 16.

The evening class will be reading the book, “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat” written by Pastor John Ortberg. Ortberg teaches people how to trust God more fully. Using testimonial interviews to illustrate his talks, the author teaches participants the skills essential for “water-walking” in faith with God.

FOCW CRAFT NIGHTDay and Time Correction Please note that the FOCW Craft Night is Friday, November 9 at 6:00 PM not Monday, November 9 at 7:00 PM as printed in the Beacon.

TEACHERS NEEDED – The Sunday School Ministry is looking to recruit Sunday School Teachers join the team and begin teaching classes  January 2019-May 2019 (once each month).  This will allow teachers who have taught for several years to experience Sunday worship service on a regular bases.  If you are interested please see Nancy Swanson or Pastor Crystal Calhoun-Johnson.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – We are in need of people to volunteer to be a greeter before the worship service. Anyone interested in sharing a smile, a hug, a handshake or just making someone feel welcome, contact Mary Taylor. Become a greeter at Federated and make a difference!

COFFEE FELLOWSHIP HOST NEEDED – Please consider signing up to be the coffee fellowship host for a week or two. There is a sign-up sheet on the table by the window.

180th CHURCH CELEBRATION – Our 180th Anniversary is drawing near. There will be a celebration dinner on Nov. 3 at 6 PM and an Anniversary Worship service on Nov. 4. We have invited our Elgin D.S. to the worship service and some of our previous pastors and former members. The anniversary service will be followed by a birthday cake and coffee hour in the Fellowship Hall. There also will be memorabilia on display. It looks to be a memorable day, so be sure to invite your family and friends to be in attendance and give God glory!

PRAYER MEETING – We have added more prayer meeting times for those of you who cannot come in the evening.  In addition to our 7:00 PM meetings on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of the month, we will meet in the Sanctuary every Thursday morning at 10:00 AM.  Our prayer meetings are a time to gather with other believers to lift our needs and our praises to God.
